Time Perspective and Academic Procrastination among University Students: Cluster Analysis

The aim of this research was to explore academic procrastination among university students and their interest in decreasing it in different time perspective clusters. 652 university students with an age range between 18 and 52 participated in the research. Academic procrastination and willingness to decrease it was measured by the Procrastination Assessment Scale for Students (PASS), while time perspective was assessed by the Zimbardo Time Perspective Inventory (ZTPI). Hierarchical cluster analysis was applied, and four time perspective patterns were distinguished with some significant differences in students academic procrastination and interest in decreasing it. The research has revealed that students in the future time perspective cluster procrastinate less than the ones in the negative time perspective or balanced time perspective clusters. Students in the balanced time perspective cluster show interest in decreasing their procrastination more than students in any other cluster.
